SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES, TANZANIA

The establishment of the new SOS projects in Arusha was strongly welcomed and supported by the Arusha community, and even within the immediate neighbourhood. Health and educational infrastructure in Arusha are unfortunately inadequate for the growing population. For this reason, SOS is committed to expanding its mandate in Arusha and further afield on the Tanzanian mainland. Additional projects are already in the planning process, including a proposed Hermann Gmeiner School in Arusha, which will be operational in January 2004, and a second SOS Children’s Village and National Office in Dar-es-Salaam.

The SOS Children’s Village Arusha is situated at the foot of Mt. Meru, (4566 ft) about 12kms from the city centre along the Arusha-Nairobi road. It is still a young village opening as recently as June 2000

Our children have now adjusted well to the village family life. We help them adapt to their new living environment, and ensure that they have a good, balanced diet and medical attention when necessary. Most importantly however, we create a loving and nurturing atmosphere for our children to grow up in.
